This expansion study for Greenwood Library increases the currently undersized facility to 10,000 sf while keeping the massing of the building in scale with its residential surroundings. Materials and detailing also respect the historic train station building immediately adjacent to the site. The addition is planned in phases to accommodate continuing operation of the existing library during construction. The large plaza outside the reading area replaces public open space and allows handicap and delivery access to the existing building, which sits several feet above grade. Large windows and glass doors link the main library space to this outdoor room.
